The importance of handwriting can be easily overlooked, especially if writing is challengng for a child. Handwriting involves much more than the physical 'mechanics' of using a pen/pencil. There is a lot more going on than meets the eye. The process of handwriting also involves cognitive processes and is linked with other areas of literacy learning such as reading and spelling! Does your child generally dislike writing, have an awkward pencil grip, or have 'messy' writing? If so, tutoring or the Handwriting Workshop can help.

Here's a little bit about what has been happening at Ontogenesis during Term 3 ....
The private tutoring sessions have continued to grow with sessions available during the day, after school and on Saturdays. It is wonderful to see the students growing in confidence and knowledge as the term progresses!
Mondays and Tuesdays are busy with Homeschool Workshops, with private sessions in-between. In the Creative Wrting Group the participants have written and edited a story based on finding a bell in a cave .... what happens when the bell is rung? How did it come to be in the cave? The participants are also currently writing a newspaper article based on the information from their stories.
In the Times Table workshop we not only learn the tables through games & movement, but also explore how they are used in mathematical calculations.
The participants in Book Club are enjoying the Tale of Despereaux ... it is SO hard to wait for the next instalment each week!
We have a small singing group on a Wednesday afternoon, which is ALWAYS lots of fun! We will be looking at doing some basic recorder in the coming weeks as well!
The basic literacy/numeracy and singing groups are popular and are a great workshop for helping to get the reading/writing process underway. This workshop incorporates games and songs as well as a sequential and cumulative spelling program.
I have been excited to conduct the first Irlen Screenings at Ontogenesis. It is so rewarding to see the relief and excitment experienced by those who finally have a 'reason' for their difficulties with reading AND a simple and effective tool to help them manage the symptoms.
There are a growing number of people enjoying the benefits of Reiki and I will soon be offering something new to those who would like to go a little deeper with Reiki, so keep an eye out towards the end of the year!!
Finally, there will be some new offerings for workshops for Term 4, so make sure you you check back for those in the next couple of weeks!

I am pleased to announce that Ontogenesis now conducts Irlen Screenings. Since beginning my work at Ontogenesis I have found that quite a few of my students have shown signs of Irlen Syndrome. I have been absolutely AMAZED at the difference that Irlen lenses and colour overlays have made to the lives of these students. The increase in their confidence and reading ability is astounding! It truly warms my heart. As a certified Irlen Screener I am now able to carry out screenings at my East Gosford practice. For more information visit my Irlen Screening page.
What Is Irlen Syndrome?
Irlen Syndrome is a visual processing issue. It can affect both adults and children.
Individuals with Irlen Syndrome may experience one or more of the following:
Poor depth perception
Headaches, migraines and other physical symptoms

Term 3 Workshops begin TUESDAY 18TH JULY
An updated timetable and information can be found here
|Posted on 9 June, 2017 at 8:20||comments (0)|
The Term 3 Timetable is now up! For further details check out the workshop times and descriptions here
A few workshops were standouts during Term 2 so these will be offered again for Term 3 with the addition of similar workshops for Stage 2.
The Stage 3/4 group, parents appreciated the consecutive workshops on the one day. This allowed the possibility to do all three workshops if desired - and some students did just that! The Creative Writing, Book Club and Times Tables workshops worked well together. This option will now be available for Stage 2 students on a Wednesday.
Stage 1 students have a combined singing, basic literacy/numeracy group running for one and a half hours on a Tuesday. This group is now full and a second group will be offered on a Friday between 9.30 and 11.00 am.
If you have any suggestions for workshops, please add them to comments or message me here. I would also love to hear your suggestions for parent workshops. What topics would you like to know more about?
